Pictures Attempt #2

Just trying to put a few pictures up -- not very comprehensive of my time here but at least it's something.

Welcome to Chitimba! It's beautiful.

Here's me with part of my host family during homestay. Seated on my left is my amayi, Annie, and the two kids are Takondwa (which means "We were happy") and Jeannie.

The same picture, essentially, except with Francis, and Amayi and Jeannie put things on their heads. I did not ask them to. This was unprompted.

This is an example of rainy season in Malawi.

The view from my living room window! I took this picture in December, so now actually the view is a lot greener, since it's been raining. Also you can observe all the quality reading I have been doing.

Here's all my stuff, the morning after I arrived at site in Chitimba! I thought it was worth taking a picture of just how much junk got lugged from Lilongwe. This picture is in my living room -- which now looks a lot more orderly.

This madness is my garden after I returned from a 3-week absence. It has since been toned down a little bit. On the left is my back door, and on the right my kitchen (the room where I light a fire and cook dinner).

My bedroom.

My school. This is the Form 1 classroom. If the picture continued to the left, you would see the Form 2 classroom, and then the library.

Lastly, the beach that I walk to a few times a week. Pretty, huh?

  1. Hey Meg, your photos really sobered me, and the account inspires me to try keeping something similar when I'm in Japan. Thanks for sharing. I'm really proud of you! I'll try to send mail sometime; hopefully this doesn't count as stalking =P ~Chris
